▷ Discussing expanded hydrogen economy cooperation with global companies and international organizations
The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment (MCEE, Minister Kim Sungwhan) announced that First Vice Minister Kum Hanseung will attend the Hydrogen Session of the “2025 APEC CEO Summit Korea,” held on October 30 at the Gyeongju Arts Center, to discuss directions for global cooperation in the hydrogen economy and share the government’s hydrogen policy.
The APEC CEO Summit is the largest business forum in the Asia-Pacific region, held alongside the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. It is an international event attended by about 1,500 participants, including leaders of member countries, representatives of international organizations, and global business executives. This year’s summit, held from October 28 to 31, consists of a total of 21 sessions covering various topics such as economy and finance, artificial intelligence (AI), energy, digitalization, and carbon neutrality, with the hydrogen session included as one of them.
This hydrogen session has been organized to discuss the global outlook on hydrogen establishing itself as a key clean energy source across industries and power generation, beyond mobility. Participants in the session include the Hydrogen Council*, which is a global coalition of hydrogen industry leaders, along with global hydrogen companies and organizations such as Hyundai Motor Company. They will discuss topics such as building hydrogen supply chains, technological innovation, and strategies for public-private cooperation.
* A private council composed of representatives from over 140 global hydrogen-related companies
In his keynote speech, First Vice Minister Kum Hanseung is expected to state, “The Korean government is actively promoting an energy transition centered on renewable energy and will accelerate the implementation of carbon neutrality by building a full-cycle ecosystem for clean hydrogen to support it stably.” He will also emphasize, “The international community, including the APEC region, which is emerging as a hub of the global hydrogen economy, should work closely together on hydrogen supply chains and policies to build a sustainable hydrogen economy ecosystem.”
