Korea’s Designated Operational Entity for CDM Project Advances into China

A branch of the Designated Operational Entity (DOE) for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project will be established in China, according to the Korea Environmental Corporation (KEC). Designated Operational Entity (DOE) is a private company or a consultant approved by the Executive Board to conduct validation, verification and certification of CDM project activities.

The branch is planned to be located in Shanghai or Hangzhou. It is expected that the branch in China will work on validation, verification and certification of CDM projects.

Accounting for 33.9 percent of the world’s CDM projects and 50.5 percent of the Certified Emission Reductions (CERs), China has huge potential as the largest CDM market.

On November 17, 2009, the Korea Environmental Corporation made a long-term contract with the Asia Development Bank for CDM projects and it plans to expand its activities in China and further to the whole Asian region.
