Jeju Hanlim Offshore Wind Power Completion Ceremony Held - Built Together by the Public Sector and Local Communities

▷ Second Vice Minister Lee Hohyeon of the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment attends the Hanlim Offshore Wind Power completion ceremony

▷ Contributing to the development of Korea’s wind power supply chain and promoting coexistence with local communities

The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment (MCEE, Minister Kim Sungwhan) announced that Second Vice Minister Lee Hohyeon will attend the “Hanlim Offshore Wind Power Complex Completion Ceremony,” to be held on December 15 at Wave Jeju Hotel & Resort (located in Hallim-eup, Jeju).

The Hanlim Offshore Wind Power Project is a 100 MW power generation project developed in the offshore waters of Suwon-ri, Hallim-eup, Jeju, and is currently the largest offshore wind power complex in commercial operation in Korea.

The project was invested in by public power generation companies such as Korea Electric Power Corporation, Korea Midland Power, and KEPCO Engineering & Construction, which led the entire process from development to operation. By configuring key facilities, including turbines, substructures, and cables, with domestically produced equipment, the project is being recognized as an exemplary case that both fosters the domestic industrial ecosystem in the offshore wind sector and strengthens its public interest.

In addition, three villages near the power complex formed a cooperative and invested a total of KRW 30 billion (4.7% of the total project cost), and the project is significant in that it presents a model example of a community-benefit-sharing power generation project, in which annual dividends are returned to local residents.

Meanwhile, at the event, government awards will be presented to individuals who have made meritorious contributions to the completion of the nation’s largest offshore wind power complex and to the development of the wind power industry.

Second Vice Minister Lee Hohyeon stated, “Hanlim Offshore Wind Power is a model project successfully completed under the leadership of public enterprises by bringing together domestic technologies and manufacturing capabilities, and it has laid the cornerstone for the development of Korea’s offshore wind power industry.” He added, “In line with the offshore wind infrastructure expansion and deployment plan jointly announced by relevant ministries on December 10, we will expand support infrastructure such as ports, vessels, and financing to gradually reduce generation costs while accelerating deployment, and foster the offshore wind power industry as a future growth engine.”
